PROP Nathan Massey has signed a new, improved two-year deal to stay with Castleford Tigers until at least the end of the 2013 season.

Massey was a candidate for man of the match with a strong running display against Bradford Bulls on Sunday and has made an excellent start to the new Super League season, a fact reflected by the club’s offer of improved terms on a new contract just six months after he signed a previous two-year deal.

The 22-year-old former Walton Warriors junior has progressed through the club’s Academy ranks and has now made 25 first team appearances as well as having loan spells at Featherstone Rovers, York, Gateshead and Keighley to gain experience.

He has caught the eye of Tigers head coach Ian Millward with his efforts in training and on the pitch.

Millward said: “I’m pleased that Nathan has signed a new two-year deal.

“I’ve been very impressed with him. He’s only young and got a lot of good years in front of him.

“He’s been a joy to work with and front rowers develop later. It’s not easy at that age to be playing first grade in that position, but I think long term he’s going to be a good player for this club.

“He’s homegrown, comes with a great attitude and a great desire.”
