Powell: We will have to be at our best

Coach Daryl Powell knows Castleford Tigers will have to produce a top quality performance if they are to enjoy a successful homecoming against Hull FC tomorrow evening.

The Tigers line-up will include new signing Ben Davies for their first Super League fixture at the Wish Communications Stadium for seven weeks and their first home game under new boss Powell.

“We’ll need to be at our best to win, there’s no doubt about that. Hull are a good side and they are certainly going to challenge us,” said Powell (pictured).

“I’m looking for an 80-minute performance or close to it. We are looking to be back to the standard we set ourselves for the Magic Weekend game against Wakefield. That’s been our best recent performance.

“We’ve got to believe in ourselves when we play at home, that’s for certain. We have fantastic support and and we want to justify that support with an outstanding performance.

“We have five home matches left so we want to build our surge towards the end of the season with our home form and Friday’s game is obviously the starting point to that. It’s an important match for us.”

Former Wigan and Widnes forward Davies will be in Castleford’s 17 tomorrow but they will again be without suspended winger Justin Carney. His place is likely to go to Richard Owen or James Clare.

Powell said: “Ben Davies will play. He has slotted in excellently in training.

“The team has trained exceptionally well so far this week. We’ve now got to make sure we play well individually and collectively to give ourselves a really strong chance.

“We know the quality is there in the team and we are going to need to defend well because Hull are certainly going to challenge us with the amount of good quality players they’ve got in their side.”
