CO-OPERATIVE Championship side Dewsbury Rams have signed Castleford Tigers academy duo James Clare and Billy Harris.

Twenty-year-old winger Clare (pictured) has signed a dual registration deal and 19-year-old back row forward Harris will join the Rams on a season-long loan.

Clare joined Castleford from Lock Lane ARLFC in 2010. Last month he signed a full-time two-year contract after impressing for the under 20s.

Former Stanley Rangers junior Harris signed for Castleford in 2007 as a scholarship player. He captained the club’s under 18s side in 2009 and has been in full time training for the past 12 months.

Tigers head of youth development Steve Gill said: “I have been impressed with the squad Dewsbury coach Warren Jowitt is putting together. It has a real blend of youth and experience in it and we are delighted that Billy will experience first team rugby throughout the whole season there. It will be excellent experience for him and hopefully he will be pushing for a first-team place with Castleford in 2013.

“With James, we believe he could be the surprise package of the season and could even make his Super League debut in 2012. This is why we have opted to go down the dual contract route with him, so we can hopefully introduce him to Super League gradually. Playing some games in the Championship will help him considerably in achieving these aims.”

Both players will continue to benefit from training in Castleford’s full time environment during the first half of the week before linking up with Dewsbury for the latter half as they prepare specifically for the weekend’s game
