The worst kept secret in rugby league was confirmed when Salford announced their capture of Castleford Tigers star Rangi Chase at a press conference today.
Chase is one of 12 signings revealed by the Reds, along with fellow England international Gareth Hock, Warrington’s Adrian Morley, Wakefield scrum-half Tim Smith, St Helens duo Francis Meli and Tony Puletua, overseas trio Jake Mullaney, Junior Sa’u and Steve Rapira, London hooker Tommy Lee and Batley pair Paul Walton and Greg Johnson.
It is believed former Man of Steel Chase will become the highest paid player in the British game while Castleford will receive a fee, undisclosed yet, for his services as he was still under contract.
Chase, who will play his last match for Castleford at Wakefield on Sunday, said it was a relief to finally be open about where he would be playing next year.
He added: “It’s a big day for the club and it’s an honour to be here.
“It’s a relief to get it out, it’s been the worst-kept secret.
“It’s very exciting waiting for next year to happen. It’s going to be a big year and I can’t wait to be part of the transformation of the club. The sky is the limit for us.”
