Castleford Tigers have confirmed they have signed 22-year-old Salford City Reds half-back Marc Sneyd on loan for the whole of next season.
Sneyd, who is Castleford’s fourth signing in as many days, joins the Tigers as an off-shoot of the deal that saw England stand-off Rangi Chase move to Salford.
Sneyd is looking to earn a regular first-team place at Castleford in 2014.
He said: “Hopefully I can force my way into Tigers coach Daryl Powell’s plans during pre-season by working very hard and by showing him and my team-mates that I bring something extra to the squad.
“There’s going to be real competition for places next season, especially in the halves. I’m looking forward to that challenge, though, because competition always seems to bring the best in players.”
Sneyd made his Salford debut in 2010 and has made 45 Super League appearances.
Tigers boss Daryl Powell confirmed he is interested in hooker Liam Hood who Leeds Rhinos released this week.
“I had a bit of a chat with his agent to see what the position was but I’ve not heard back from him,” said Powell, who quashed rumours Castleford were set to sign Hull winger Tom Briscoe.
The Tigers still hope to sign their former prop Andy Lynch from Hull but it has been reported that Tigers forward Jon Walker’s proposed move to Hull may have hit a snag.
