With another big crowd expected to cram into the Mend-A-Hose Jungle for this afternoon’s big local derby against Wakefield Trinity, first team star Oliver Holmes has praised Castleford Tigers fans for their fantastic support this year.

All the crowds at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle have topped the 8,000 figure so far this year with the Leeds Rhinos game a sell-out and the Trinity match fast heading there.

Tigers fans are also travelling in big numbers to the away games and the support is really appreciated by the players, according to back rower Holmes.

He told the Express: “Our fans have been fantastic in their numbers and their support.

“What’s been even better is how they have travelled. Last Thursday at Wigan showed how good they really are. To have that many of them there on a Thursday night on TV, away, is testament to how good the fans are.

“We were always sort of looking at that Wigan game and thinking there’s going to be a fair few going over, but then when you turn up and see there is that many there I was still sort of taken aback by it. It was quite impressive.”

The fans enjoyed their night out in Wigan with the team winning 27-10 and Holmes admitted he always looks forward to the games against the Warriors.

He said: “It’s always an enjoyable time going to Wigan. I know that might sound a bit daft, but a lot of us enjoy going over to Wigan. There’s been a bit of rivalry between us and them over the recent years so going over there and knocking them off was good.

“Going to Wigan and keeping them to 10 points was pretty impressive I’d say.

“We were under pressure in the second half when they were throwing the lot at us so keeping them to just one try in the half is a good effort. If you can do that with most teams you’ve done pretty well, but to do that to Wigan at their place is even better.”
