CASTLEFORD Tigers enjoyed a second successive clean sweep of victories in the new Rugby League Nines competition when they took on Featherstone Rovers, Halifax and Bradford Bulls at Odsal on Tuesday evening.
After wins over Hull KR, Hull FC and Bradford at Craven Park last week, the young Tigers, coached by Gary Thornton, backed up with another three wins and are now looking forward to the final two rounds at Featherstone next Tuesday and at their own Probiz Coliseum the following week.
In the Odsal round Castleford were boosted by the inclusion of first teamers Oliver Holmes and Steve Snitch and an 18-13 win over hosts Bradford gave them a flying start before they then demolished Halifax 42-4.
The final match of the night saw the Tigers keep local rivals Feathertone Rovers scoreless with an 18-0 win – a rare feat in the more open, shortened form of the game.
Tigers’ head of youth development Steve Gill said: “Credit again must go to the coaching staff, we looked really organised.
“We were Tigerish in defence, made few errors and to nil Featherstone in the final game was testament to the fitness and drive of the lads.
“They were once again a credit to this club.”
Tigers 9s squad at Bradford: Greg Eden, James Clare, Josh Nathaniel, John Davies, Matt Wood, Ryan Brierley, Ben Johnson, Carlie Martin, Jack Smith, Billy Harris, Oliver Holmes, Steve Snitch, Shaun Richards.
