WATCH: Eden signs new deal with Castleford Tigers

Flying winger Greg Eden has become the latest Castleford Tigers player to commit to the club.

Last season’s top try scorer has signed a new three-year contract extension with the club that will see him stay at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle until the end of the 2021 season.

Eden began his career with the Tigers, making his Super League debut in 2011 before moving to Huddersfield Giants.

The 27-year-old also spent time with Hull KR and Salford Red Devils before heading to Australia at the end of the 2014 season to join NRL side Brisbane Broncos.

After only making a handful of appearances for the Broncos during his two years with the club, Eden would return back to where it all began, signing a deal with the Tigers.

In 2017, Eden would go on to top the try scoring charts as he bagged 38 tries in the Super League season while adding three more in the Challenge Cup. His performances saw the winger land a place in the 2017 Super League Dream Team alongside five of his team mates.

Eden is pleased to have committed his future to his home town club.

He said: “Last year I was really enjoying my rugby and I feel like I slotted straight back into the Castleford way of playing rugby.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here since I’ve been back and I’m ecstatic to have extended my contract.

“I’ve not had the best of luck so far this season with a hamstring injury keeping me out for a few weeks but I’m excited to get back out there with the boys.”

Tigers director of rugby Jon Wells is delighted to have completed the deal.

He said: “You shouldn’t reduce an individual’s career to plain statistics, but in the case of Greg Eden it is worth having a look because his appearance to tries ratio makes impressive reading - 116 first grade career appearances and 82 tries, including 41 tries in 36 matches for Cas last season which is a phenomenal strike rate!

“Now seen as a proven outside back of the highest quality - he provides both points and back line options for Castleford and we are very pleased he has decided to commit his future to the Tigers.”

Head coach Daryl Powell speaks highly of his winger’s ability: “It’s great news for the club that Greg Eden has committed his future for the next three years.

“He had a fantastic first season with the club and I have no doubt this season it will be the same when he gets consistent game time under his belt. He is a natural try scorer and is a lightning quick player who can play both on the wing and at full-back. I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing him develop further in the coming years.”
