CASTLEFORD Tigers suffered their first defeat under new coach Ian Millward when they lost 40-20 to Wakefield Wildcats at Rapid Solicitors Stadium in front of a crowd of 2,200 this afternoon (Sunday).

After beating Bradford 28-18 on Boxing Day and Huddersfield 32-22 nine days ago, the Tigers were unable to make it a hat-trick of pre-season wins against Wakefield's new-look side.

The Wildcats led 18-0 before the Tigers opened their account when Rangi Chase's kick set up a try for former Wakefield player Brett Ferres.

Castleford struck again early in the second-half when Stuart Jones went over.

However, Wakefield then regained control to build a match-winning lead.

New signings Lee Mitchell and Steve Nash scored in the last 10 minutes but it was too late for the Tigers.

Wildcats man of the match Danny Washbrook bagged two touchdowns and Paul Aiton, Ali Lauitiiti, Ben Cockayne, Vince Mellars, Richard Mathers and Motu Tony also crossed for the home side.
