CASTLEFORD Tigers made an unbeaten start to the new Rugby League Nines tournament at Hull KR’s Craven Park.
The Tigers played three 15-minute games against Hull KR, Hull FC, and Bradford in this the first of four weekly rounds of the five-week tournament which colminates in a Grand Final at Headingley Carnegie.
Gary Thornton’s young Tigers overcame hosts Hull KR 24-19 before demolishing Hull FC 24-8 and Bradford 22-8.
Delighted Tigers head of youth development Steve Gill said: “This was an outstanding team performance against some strong opposition, they were a real credit to Castleford Tigers.
“The opposition could not live with the pace and power of the Castleford side.
“The forwards were like a pack of hyenas and tackled everything and laid the platform for the backs to show what they are capable of.”
Gill also praised Gary Thornton and the rest of the coaching staff who he said fully deserved the credit for the team producing such outstanding performances.
Tigers squad: Greg Eden, Matt Wood, Josh Atkinson, Josh Nathaniel, James Clare, Ryan Brierley, Ben Johnson, Chris Siddons, Joe Picketts, John Davies, Billy Harris, Jack Smith, Sean Richards.
