Featherstone Lions and Lock Lane aiming for promotion

FEATHERSTONE Lions and Lock Lane have both set their sights on winning promotion from National Conference League Division One when the new campaign gets underway tomorrow (Saturday).

Bookmakers Sky Bet have installed Oulton Raiders as 7-4 favourites to finish top of the table in the regular season, with Lions second in the betting at 5-1, followed by Leigh Miners Rangers at 6-1 and Lock Lane and Pilkington Recs both at 8-1.

The other odds are Thornhill Trojans 10-1, Skirlaugh 12-1, Bradford Dudley Hill 14-1, Milford Marlins and York Acorn both 20-1 and Ince Rose Bridge and Shaw Cross both 25-1.

Lane are home to Skirlaugh and Lions visit York Acorn in the opening fixtures this weekend.

Lions beat Acorn 25-24 on the final day last season to finish in seventh spot, just once place below neighbours Lane.

Lane visit Lions at Mill Pond Stadium in a derby clash in the second game of the season on Saturday, March 17.

Both clubs have new head coaches this season.

Paul Couch has returned to Lock Lane for another spell in charge while Lions have Paul Dooley as their new coach, with Andy Kain as assistant coach.
