FEATHERSTONE Rovers have dismissed rumours linking them with former Hull FC, Hull KR and Wakefield Wildcats stand-off Paul Cooke (pictured).

Rovers head coach Daryl Powell said: “At this stage he is not someone I’d be interested in.”

Meanwhile, Powell was pleased with Featherstone’s display in last Sunday’s 36-22 pre-season win over Gateshead.

He said: “I thought it was an excellent first-half performance playing against Gateshead’s first-team.

“I think it shows a significant step up from what we had in reserves last year so that’s good because you are always looking to progresss from year to year.”

“Obviously, they dropped off a bit in the second-half - I think they got a bit excited with themselves - but they did some quality things in the first period and the signs are good for the depth at the club for the coming season.

“I thought Ben Mawson and Caysi Pearson did well up front, Ross Divorty and Dom Dee started the game and I don’t think too much changed when Mawson and Pearson came on. I thought they looked strong up front.

“Mufaro Mvududu gave a strong display and Ryan Gaunt controlled the game along with Greg Worthington in the first-half.”

Powell is pleased with the way the pre-season work is progressing.

He said: “It’s fantastic to be training outside again. We had a full day’s training on Saturday which went really well.

“The guys are looking really sharp and I’m pleased with what I’m seeing on the field at the moment so the signs are good. We are getting to the point in pre-season where you are looking for things to be running nice and sharp and that’s certainly the case.”

Centre Sam Smeaton has been given the all clear after injuring a thumb against Hunslet earlier this month.

Said Powell: “He had an x-ray and there was no issue from a break point of view so he’s fine.”

Admission prices for Saturday’s pre-season match against Oldham are £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £3 for children.

Latest £500 winners in the Rovers treasure chest lottery are D Webster (W0764), M Deane (E1178), J Bradley (L3904), J Bloomer (V1408), J Ward (I2830). Junction meal voucher: P Bailey (V1614).
