Featherstone Rovers have announced that Gavin Bennion has joined the club on a one year loan deal from Super League club Warrington Wolves.
Powerful prop forward Bennion, who is 6ft 3in and weighs over 16 stones, is no stranger to incoming head coach John Bastian who has watched his progression closely from scholarship level at Warrington to him turning full-time professional in 2013.
Bennion is an England under 18 international who toured Australia in July 2012 and played two test matches against the Australians and spent time at Swinton Lions last season on dual-registration.
Incoming Featherstone Rovers head coach Bastian said “Gavin has huge potential and spending a year at Featherstone will undoubtedly help his development, progression and aid him in realising his potential.
“He is a robust forward who is hardworking on the pitch and in training. I am confident that Gavin will enhance the already formidable pack of forwards we have at the club.
“I like his attitude and he possesses all the personal qualities that we are looking for in all our players including those already at the club and the new signings we have made recently.
“I would personally like to thank Tony Smith and Warrington Wolves for their co-operation in allowing Gavin to join us for 2014.”
Bennion said “I am excited about joining Featherstone Rovers and experiencing a different environment to what I have been used to in my fledgling career so far.
“At Featherstone, I am looking not only to improve my game and become a more rounded player, but also personally become a more mature character. I am familiar with John Bastian as well as Ben Hellewell and James Mendeika who has also recently joined Rovers, which will help me settle in at the club quickly.”
