Featherstone Rovers have announced that promising youngsters Luke Cooper, Jack Coventry, Kyran Johnson and Bradley Tagg have all signed new contracts for the club.

All four, along with Sam Day, have progressed through Rovers’ junior development programme and featured in the first team in the latter part of the 2015 season.

Head coach Jon Sharp is delighted with the players’ achievements and is looking forward to seeing them progress in 2016.

He said: “During the back end of the season we had to introduce some of the young blokes into the squad and they all took their chances when offered.

“For me one of the highlights of the year was the performance at Workington when we probably featured more youngsters than I would have liked but they were magnificent that day.

“With a good pre-season behind them I can see them all pushing for places and it’s testament to the work undertaken by the junior coaches over the last few years that we’ve got such a fantastic crop of youngsters coming through and we’ve had to fight off competition from other clubs to keep them at the Big Fellas Stadium.”

Prop forward Luke Cooper said: “I’m happy to be able to sign with Fev and will be working hard to cement a first team place next season.

“It was awesome to make my debut at Catalans and the win at Bradford was special.

“I was also proud of the boys for winning the Kingstone Press Championship Shield.”

Fellow forward Jack Coventry said: “I’m really happy to have signed a new contract. I’ve worked hard to get this far and Jon giving me a first team opportunity has spurred me to work even harder.

“It was awesome to play in the final and I can’t wait for the new season to get under way.”

Kyran Johnson, who has been at the club since 2010, is another happy to have put pen to paper.

He said: “I’m pleased to be able to continue my career at Featherstone Rovers. I really enjoyed last season and hope to be able to help the club to a top four finish in 2016.

Back-rower Bradley Tagg commented: “I’m delighted to have signed my first full-time contract at Featherstone Rovers.

“I really enjoyed my involvement last season and am looking forward to getting stuck in 2016.”
