Featherstone Rovers forwards James Lockwood, Matt James, Shaun Pick and Luke Teasdale have signed new contracts.

Lockwood joined Rovers from Dewsbury Rams in 2012 and James was signed from Wakefield the same year while promising youngsters Pick and Teasdale have recently earned first-team call ups.

Rovers coach Andy Hay said: “We have re-signed James Lockwood, Matt James, Luke Teasdale and Shaun Pick on extended contracts.

“Lockwood and James have been given a one year extension and Teasdale and Pick have been given new two year contracts.

“Pick has been outstanding since he came into the team and Teasdale has been knocking on the door all year.

“They are both really good players with good attitudes and they have good futures.”

Rovers forward Matty Dale may retire from playing after sustaining a serious knee which requires surgery. It will keep him out of action until the middle of next year.

Hay said: “Matty did his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in last month’s game at Leigh and he’s just taking stock of his career at the minute.

“He started a job as a schoolteacher this year so I think he’s having a little bit of a dilemma whether he wants to carry on playing or hang up his boots. I think he’s come to a time where he’s got a career after rugby to think about.

“He’s going to make a decision after he’s finished his rehab with his injury which will be the middle of next year. It would probably be next May to June before he’s fully fit.”
