Late flourish earns Rovers comfortable victory

MAN of the match Kyle Briggs (pictured) bagged two second-half tries as Featherstone Rovers made it two wins from two games in the Northern Rail Cup group stages by beating Dewsbury Rams 38-6 at Bigfellas Stadium this afternoon.

The battling Rams took a surprise third minute lead with a converted try by Ryan Esders and were only 16-6 behind with 13 minutes left but Rovers finished the stronger side to stay on course for the knock-out stages.

They recovered from 6-0 down to lead 10-6 at the break with tries from Sam Smeaton and Andy Kain.

They increased their lead when Briggs collected his first touchdown midway through the second period and they ran away with the game in the closing stages with Tangi Ropati, Briggs, Ben Kaye and Ian Hardman all crossing in a match watched by 1,943 spectators.
