There is a ‘big chance’ Featherstone’s new signing Reni Maitua will play in tonight’s Championship home match against Sheffield Eagles (6pm).
Former Australia and Samoa international Reni Maitua is set to make his Rovers bow after arriving at Featherstone at the weekend.
He is in the 19-man squad along with Andy Ellis, Gareth Moore and Jack Bussey who missed the 24-8 defeat against London.
Rovers coach Andy Hay said: “We’ll have to see how Maitua is and if he’s ready to play he will do. There’s a big chance he could play on Monday.”
Hay will make team changes for tonight’s game.
He said: “It’s going to be a big game on Monday. I always thought Sheffield was going to be a bigger game than London and it definitely is now.
“I am not happy with how the league allowed Sheffield to play on Wednesday and we had to play on Friday.
“They are supposed to be Easter fixtures and I’ve not heard of an Easter Wednesday.
“We are behind the eight-ball a little bit with preparation.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do in a short space of time. Psychologically, the players are going to be battered and they’ve got to get up for the game on Monday.
“There are obviously going to be be some changes and they have got to handle that as well.”
Featherstone’s squad tonight is:
Foster, Bostock, Ellis, Blackmore, Hardman, Bussey, Cording, Baldwinson, Hitchcox, Moore, James, Chappell, Sykes, Wood, Marginet, Irwin, Maitua, Milner, Sharp.
