Coach Daryl Powell believes Featherstone’s fitness was a big factor in the closing stages of Sunday’s Championship win at Dewsbury Rams.
Late tries by Liam Finn and Kyle Briggs earned Rovers a dramatic 22-20 victory after they trailed 18-6 at half-time and were 20-12 behind with 10 minutes left.
Powell (pictured) said: “In the last 10 minutes Dewsbury were out on their feet. We were were making yards consistently up the middle of the field and getting our kicks away and it took its toll.
“We came up with a couple of smart plays in the last 10 minutes. I thought Liam Finn was sensational in coming up with a couple of clever pieces of play to win it.
“I thought people like Jack Bussey were excellent and our forwards were superb.
“For us to win it as we did showed a lot of character and determination. Good teams do things like that when they need to come up with something.
“Obviously, there are loads we can improve from that game but to get the win was a great effort.”
Powell was pleased with the form of substitute back rower Bussey.
“Jack is a strong player. He’s come through over the last couple of years and he now looks like he’s found another level,” he said.
“He’s strong and he’s got an edge to him that is good for a rugby league player. He can also play in different positions.”
