Featherstone Rovers stormed to their first win at Big Fellas Stadium this season with a 13-try spree against Workington Town on Sunday.
They ended a run of four successive home defeats in great style by putting outclassed Workington to the sword in a 72-0 thrashing.
Jy Hitchcox grabbed three tries, including two in the final three minutes, and Jamie Cording and Alex Foster both scored twice.
Gareth Moore chipped in with a try and eight goals in a win that lifted Rovers to fourth place in the Championship.
They were far too good for lowly Workington who were 16-0 behind after just 10 minutes.
Ian Hardman’s second minute try started the rout.
Hitchcox then collected a Workington kick and raced 80 yards to score before Andy Ellis went over from close range.
Ben Blackmore sent in Cording for his first try, Nathan Chappell chased his own kick to score and Paul Sykes’s kick set up a touchdown for half-back partner Moore.
Foster grabbed his first try by finishing the best move of the game involving Chappell and Thomas Minns.
Cording grabbed his second from Blackmore’s kick and Moore added his sixth goal to make it 44-0 at half-time.
Town, who have won just once at Featherstone in the last 61 years, were quickly under the cosh again in the second period.
French international Remy Marginet hacked on a kick from Minns to score and Jack Bussey scooped up a loose ball to go over.
Hitchcox’s superb tackle on the try line prevented Workington captain Graeme Mattinson grounding the ball and kept the visitors scoreless before Rovers finished with a flourish with three late tries.
Foster got his second from Moore’s pass and crisp passing sent in Hitchcox who then bagged his third in the dying seconds by gathering his own kick.
