COACH JON Sharp says Featherstone’s pre-season work is “ahead of schedule.”
He is delighted with progress since training resumed on October 31.
“I am really pleased with the way the pre-season is going,” he said.
“The blokes returned in excellent nick. They were given home programmes and clearly they’ve worked hard on what we are trying to achieve with them. They’ve come back in good shape.
“We are now in our fourth week and I’d definitely say we are ahead of schedule.
“The training has been tough but the attitude of the players has been great.
“We are now training more with extra days in there that weren’t there last year.
“We are training four days a week and it’s a tough schedule but they are handling it really well.
“The new signings have settled in well. A couple of them have found it tough - they are not used to the level of fitness and expectancy but they’ve adapted really well and fitted in well.
“I thought they were good players beforehand so hopefully with this extra bit of work in them they’ll be even better and be really good additions to the squad.”
Sharp believes a good pre-season is vital.
“Nine times out of ten the season is a reflection of what you’ve done in pre-season,” he added.
The Rovers boss is still looking to add to his squad.
“I am pleased with the quality of the squad we have so far but I think we are just a bit light in numbers,” he said.
“We are looking at maybe another back-rower and maybe an outside back and that should take us up to around 24 which is two more than we had last year.”
