Jon Sharp wants Featherstone to cut out errors in Sunday’s first home Kingstone Press Championship game against Batley Bulldogs at Big Fellas Stadium (3pm kick-off).

The Rovers boss was pleased with much of his side’s performance in their first fixture at Bradford Bulls but he says they will still need to improve to beat John Kear’s Batley who were shock 24-22 winners against big-spenders Leigh Centurions in the opening round.

“We have to be better than we were last week if we want to win,” said Sharp.

“We need to improve on our execution and cut down on our errors. And, hopefully, the referee doesn’t hammer us like we got hammered at Bradford.

“Our home form is important. There was disappointment for the fans last year with the team not doing as well at home as they should have and it’s something we need to address.

“John Kear gets his teams ready, especially for the big games.

“There’s no getting away from it, it was a surprise them beating Leigh but I’m not surprised Batley played well because I expected them to.”

Featherstone recovered from 26-6 down with 10 minutes left to snatch an incredible 28-26 victory with a converted try by Will Sharp after the final hooter in last season’s corresponding home match against the Bulldogs.

“It was an amazing finale to what was a really tough game for us. The match was a struggle for 80 minutes and I expect the same this Sunday,” added Sharp.

“I think the club historically have a struggle against Batley who will be buoyed by what was a great performance by them against Leigh last weekend.

“We are pleased with our recruitment but then you look at everyone else’s recruitment and how they’ve gone about their business and it looks like it’s going to a really tough competition again this season.”

Meanwhile, Rovers season tickets remain on sale at £170 adults, £110 concessions and £45 juniors.

Season tickets can be purchased in person from the main office at Big Fellas Stadium (office hours 9am to 5pm and Saturday morning 10am to noon) or by calling 01977-702386 during normal office hours.
