Featherstone Rovers are still without a pre-season win after losing 26-6 to fellow Kingstone Press Championship outfit Batley Bulldogs at Fox’s Biscuits Stadium on Sunday.

After encouraging displays in defeats against Super League neighbours Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Wildcats, Rovers gave a disappointing performance against a sharper Batley side in a game watched by 744 spectators.

Rovers were their own worst enemies at times in a mistake-ridden game.

They were 22-0 down at half-time and were unable to turn things round in the second period even though they were playing down the slope.

Mason Tonks scored Featherstone’s solitary try that Paul Sykes converted.

Featherstone’s Nathan Chappell was sin-binned in the second-half for a late challenge on a Batley player after he kicked the ball.
