Featherstone Rovers prop Keegan Hirst has rejoined Championship rivals Batley Bulldogs.

Rovers signed the 26-year-old from Batley 13 months ago on a two-year contract. He has also played for Hunslet Hawks and Dewsbury Rams.

The 6ft 3in forward had a spell on loan at Batley from Featherstone midway through last season.

Rovers coach Andy Hay said: “We sat down with Keegan. It was maybe going to be difficult for him to hold a place down in our team next season so he was happy to move on to Batley.

“We’ve got to compete with good sides next season and we’ve upped our training time considerably. I think Keegan was one of the players struggling with that.

“It’s what I see as best for the team but some people obviously can’t commit to that because of their jobs and everything else so unfortunately people have to move on.”

Meanwhile, former Rovers player Matt Bramald has returned to Championship club Hunslet Hawks as assistant to head coach Barry Eaton.

Bramald is a former Featherstone and Castleford Tigers youth coach.

He recently left the Tigers due to work commitments.

Bramald had been assisting Ryan Sheridan with the Castleford under 19s after working with him and Tigers head coach Daryl Powell at Featherstone.
