FEATHERSTONE Rovers have been given a major sponsorship boost with news that D S Smith Packaging have become a commercial partner of the club

The company, which employs over 200 people in Featherstone, has agreed to support the club initially until the end of the 2012 season with a view to a longer partnership.

Their name will appear on Featherstone's playing shorts for the remainder of this season, starting with Saturday's cup tie against Castleford Tigers which will be televised live on Sky Sports.

Rovers commercial manager Paul Taylor, pictured here with D S Smith managing director Jeremy Anderson (left), said: "This is a fantastic boost to our Destination Super League campaign. To attract a business of D S Smith Packaging’s calibre is testament to great strides we are making at the club off the field.

“We are looking forward to working closely with Jeremy Anderson and his colleagues at the site to develop a strong partnership beyond 2012 which will include employee benefits and closer links between two important organisations based in Featherstone”.

Rovers chief executive Craig Poskitt said: "I would like to welcome D S Smith Packaging as an official partner of Featherstone Rovers. We do not see this solely as a sponsorship arrangement but a commercial partnership that will not only benefit Featherstone Rovers and D S Smith Packaging but the Featherstone community as a whole.

“Both Featherstone Rovers and D S Smith Packaging are vitally important to the economic prosperity of the town and it is only natural that we should be working together for the greater good of Featherstone. It is great to be able to announce this new partnership two days before our game against Castleford and I would personally like to thank Jeremy Anderson and Mark Webster for how quick we finalised everything.”

Jeremy Anderson said: “As a long standing and major employer in the area D S Smith Packaging takes its responsibilities to the local community very seriously. We are very pleased to be able to support Featherstone Rovers. They have great plans for the future of the club and that vision is really appealing. It’s good to be part of that and we look forward to working together.”
