GARETH Handford (pictured) scored the clinching try as Fryston Warriors retained Castleford and Featherstone ARL’s David Poulter Open Cup by beating Nevison Leap 18-10 in Friday’s final at Lock Lane.

Fryston got the edge against Nevison who pipped them for the Yorkshire League Division One title this season.

Luke Beeecher’s early try put Nevison ahead in a match watched by a big crowd.

Fryston hit back to lead at half-time with touchdowns from Gary Foster and Jack Lee, plus conversions by Dale Cogan and Jake Dickinson.

Nevison cut the gap to two points in the second-half when James Clarkson converted his own try but Fryston sealed victory with Handford’s touchdown and Cogan’s second goal.

Fryston loose-forward Lee won the Craig Hopson Trophy as man of the match.

Nevison are grateful to Barkers Fencing and Monkhill Sandwich Shop for sponsoring their new kit which we wore for the first time in Friday’s final. They are also grateful to Featherstone Rovers for coming to the rescue by supplying socks which didn’t arrive with the new kit.
