Jackson: We are determinedto give good performance

CASTLEFORD’S fit again prop forward Paul Jackson is hoping the Magic Weekend can inspire the Tigers to get back to their best form when they go head to head with arch rivals Wakefield Wildcats in the opening match at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The match offers a golden opportunity for Cas to bounce back from their heavy defeat at Hull KR and with local bragging rights at stake, Jackson (pictured) is promising the club’s supporters that he and his team-mates will rise to the occasion.

The experienced forward is a former Wakefield player so he knows more than most the intensity of the rivalry between the two clubs.

He said: “Beating Wakefield at Magic Weekend would be the perfect way to get our season back on track and we’re determined to go there and put in a good performance.

“It was a couple of years ago that I played at Wakefield and I have good friends who play there. There is a huge rivalry between us leading up to the game and there is plenty of banter flying around as we all want the upper hand at the end of the day.

“The lads can’t wait to play at The Etihad Stadium, it’s always nice to play at a big venue. There is always a fantastic atmosphere at Magic Weekend with not only Cas and Wakefield fans, but all the fans from Super League, which makes it a great occasion.

“I think Magic Weekend is a great concept, fans get to watch not only their team, but the whole of the Stobart Super League over two days for a great price it’s fantastic.”

Castleford beat the Wildcats 34-16 at The Rapids Solicitors Stadium over Easter and both clubs are desperate for a Stobart Super League victory.

“It’s a really important game for both clubs,” added Jackson.

“We know it will be a tough battle to get the points, it’s never an easy match. Derby games are great, the rivalry between the two clubs always makes it a great occasion and I hope we will come away with the bragging rights.

“We’re working really hard and hopefully we can make it a weekend to remember for the Cas fans.”
