Jordan selected for Aussie tour

FORMER Castleford Lock Lane player Jordan Rice has been selected for the Great Britain and Ireland Students’ tour of Australia next month.

York City Knights utility player Rice, a former Featherstone St Wilfrid’s RC High School pupil, has been named in the Academic Lions party that will embark on an the three-week trip ‘Down Under’ on June 23.

He needs £1,500 to make the once-in-a-lifetime trip and is looking for sponsorship and donations.

The tourists will play three test matches against the Australian Universities, the first as an exhibition game in Bali, along with a game against an Australian Northern Territories select side.

Rice, who turned 21 this month, has played rugby since he was six years of age.

He was with Lock Lane for nearly 14 years and made his first-team debut for the Castleford amateur club aged 16 before he had to leave them due to other commitments and university.

He was a member of both the rugby league and union teams at St Wilfrid’s High School.

After being accepted for Hull University, he was the captain of their rugby league team in his first year there. He represented the Scotland students team in matches played in Yorkshire, Scotland and Ireland.

In his second year playing for Scotland students, he recieved the Roy Kinnear award as player of the year.

Jordan signed for Championship One club York City Knights two years ago and he is their reigning reserves player of the year.
