National RL Conference: Lock Lane lose in dramatic finish
There was high drama at Lock Lane, where York Acorn bounced back from 12 points down with 16 minutes left to prevail 25-24 in the opening National Conference Cross League game of the season.
Joe Budd got the visitors back in the frame, Jack Byrne nipped over on 72 minutes and Anthony Chilton, who had restored parity with his fourth conversion from four, snatched victory with a drop-goal four minutes from time.
Jordan Potter and Joe Boyd had crossed in the first half to give the visitors a 12-6 interval lead, but Lane had looked on course for victory when Tom Egan converted tries by Danny Sowerby, Lewis Price, Chris Siddons and Jamie Cranswick.
Featherstone Lions made a disappointing start to the season as they were beaten 58-4 at West Bowling in League F.
In a one-sided contest, the Lions were 58 points behind before Dean Gamble crossed two minutes from time for their only score.
This Saturday Lions host local rivals Lock Lane in a League F fixture.
