New signing Williams set to make Tigers debutagainst Wildcats

CASTLEFORD Tigers have signed Welsh international winger Rhys Williams on an initial one-month loan from Warrington Wolves.

He is set to make his Tigers debut in the opening game of Millennium Magic at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, on Saturday.

The 22-year-old (pictured) has scored three tries in five first team appearances for the Wolves this season but has often been kept out of their side due to the strength of the Warrington back division.

Wiilliams said: “I haven’t been getting as much first team Rugby as I’d like at Warrington and hopefully I’ll be playing at the weekend if I impress in training here.

“I don’t intend to look anymore forward than the week ahead. Hopefully I’ll be selected and will play well this week and then we’ll go from there.”

Williams played for Warrington at the weekend against Wakefield Wildcats, the opposition he will face once again for the Tigers this weekend.

He added: “Wakefield are a good side, it was a tough game last weekend but I thought I got some quick play of the balls and went well. If I do play I’ll be more prepared than the other lads. I’m looking forward to it.” He added.

Castleford head coach Ian Millward said: “He’s always been a player of outstanding natural ability and he played very strong against Wakefield at the weekend.

“He comes with speed and also a great desire to get his hands on the ball.

“I brought him in because we are short on outside backs and we haven’t been consistent in that area. It is not often at this stage in the season that you can pick up a talent like Rhys and I’m looking forward to his involvement in the coming month.”
