The event was due to kick off on Saturday, May 23, returning to Newcastle for a fifth time after being held at Liverpool FC's Anfield stadium in 2019.

Castleford Tigers were scheduled to kick off the top-flight action with a clash against Catalans Dragons at 3pm on May 23.

Newcastle Thunder were set to face Doncaster in a curtain raiser to the event at 12.30pm.

On Sunday, Wakefield Trinity were due to close the action with a clash against Hull Kingston Rovers at 5pm.

Super League are keen to "keep Dacia Magic Weekend in the 2020 schedule and all options are being considered as part of extensive and ongoing fixtures remodelling."

Executive chairman Robert Elstone admitted that postponing the event, which was first introduced in 2007, was "unavoidable"

“It’s regrettable that Super League has had to make this decision - but in light of the current situation, it is sadly unavoidable," he said.

“Our fans will be disappointed because they were all looking forward to returning to Newcastle; however, Magic is still firmly in our plans for 2020, with St James’ Park, at a later date, one of the options being considered.”

Tickets already purchased will be transferable to a later date at St James’ Park, or an alternative venue depending on when the season restarts.
