Wakefield Trinity must be wary of Warrington Wolves' 'world-class' talent

Warrington Wolves’ “world-class” talent means that Wakefield Trinity need to be at their best in this Sunday’s Super League outing, according to head coach Chris Chester.

Trinity’s home opener with Catalans Dragons was postponed due to safety concerns last weekend.

On Sunday, impressive Warrington visit Belle Vue, fresh from a stunning 19-0 success over Super League Champions St Helens last Friday night.

Steve Price’s side were beaten 16-10 by Wigan Warriors in their first league outing of the year but Chester feels they were unlucky to lose that fixture.

Marquee signing Gareth Widdop hasn’t featured for the Wire since his move from the NRL but could feature at Trinity if he recovers from a lower limb injury which he sustained in early January.

“Just looking at the way they played against Wigan, I thought they were the better side,” said Chester.

“And they were excellent last week against St Helens.

“I know Saints had a lot of bodies missing but I don’t think the scoreline would have been much different, just with the way that they play.

“They have re-invented themselves a little bit. They have had to change the way that they play.

“And they have got some special, special players in their team from one to 17.

“It is littered with internationals and world-class players and we have got to be at our best this weekend.”

High winds and heavy rain are currently expected for this weekend's fixture and Chester admits Wakefield will need to have a bigger emphasis on their kicking game on Sunday afternoon.

“I have had a look at the forecast and there are still going to be 40 mph winds and it will be banging it down with rain,” the Wakefield chief added.

“So it is not going to improve a great deal. It puts a big emphasis on our kicking game and how we need to defend against Warrington.

“Fingers crossed we can get our season up and running this weekend.”
