Townville moved to within a point of leaders Methley when they earned a maximum haul from an eight-wicket victory in their home game with Altofts in the Central Yorkshire League’s Premiership.

They were in control for much of the game after putting their visitors in and responding with a good bowling display.

Richie Bresnan made early inroads to reduce Altofts to 36-2 and although Brent Law hit 29 and Harry Clewett 50 they never got on top of the bowling.

Altofts were eventually all out for 162 with Jack Hughes taking 4-18 from 13 overs, Richie Bresnan 3-12 from 8.1 overs and Nick Bresnan 2-47 .

Townville’s reply started confidently as openers Matt Bremner (49) and Jonny Booth (44) shared a 102-run partnership. Both fell, but the job was completed by Tim Walton (31 not out) and Hughes (24 not out) in an unbroken stand of 54 that saw Townville through to victory in the 38th over.

Methley were easy nine-wicket winners at home to Scholes, but failed to pick up maximum points after being unable to bowl their opponents out.

After being put in Scholes were soon in trouble at 47-4, but dug in to avoid further wickets going down, moving the score to 81 at the end of the 34th over when the fifth wicket finally fell.

When they were reduced to 99-8 with four overs remaining it looked like Methley would bowl them out, but they managed to make it to the end of the allotted 50 overs, finishing on 136-9.

Marcus Walmsley (3-38 from 13 overs) and Jonathan Gardiner (3-27) were the most successful Methley bowlers.

Methley made light work of reaching their target, getting home with nine wickets to spare in the 29th over. Richard Foster led the way with an unbeaten 85, hammering five sixes and 10 fours, while Luke Patel (41 not out) joined him for an unbroken century stand for the second wicket.

Methley A made it three wins on the spin when they beat Birstall A by eight wickets in the Second XI Premier.

Robert Clegg paved the way for the victory when he took 6-29 as Birstall were dismissed for 112. David Winter then hit an unbeaten 66, hitting three sixes and seven fours, as Methley reached their target in the 25th over.

Townville A beat East Ardsley A by seven runs in a thrilling finish to their Second XI Premier game.

After Townville made 177 all out with Ben Collinson (48 not out) top scoring, Ardsley fell short, finishing on 170-7 with two wickets each for Matthew Hughes, Martin Duck and Adarsh Vani.
