Townville bounced back to winning ways with a convincing nine-wicket victory at home to Mirfield Parish Cavaliers in the Premier Division of the Central Yorkshire League.

South African all-rounder Kylinn Vardhan was their star performer once again, taking four wickets and following up with an unbeaten 93 as Townville held onto their third position in the table.

Mirfield were put in and were soon in trouble at 7-2 before a 69-run partnership between Terrence James (34) and Ibrar Latif (56) lifted the innings.

The lower order struggled, however, and they were all out for 148 in the 41st over with Vardhan polishing off the tail in taking 4-42, Richie Bresnan claiming 2-29, Nick Bresnan 2-24 and Jack Hughes 2-18.

Townville suffered a quick setback in their reply with opener Tim Walton bowled without score second ball. But that was to be the only wicket they lost as Jonathan Booth, with 41 not out, including six fours, and Vardhan, with 93 not out from 88 balls, including 19 boundaries, saw the side home in just 27.4 overs.

Townville could not make it a double success as they lost by 47 runs to Treeton in the second round of the ECB National Cup on Sunday.

After being put in, Treeton made 233-8 from 37 overs with opener Stephen Foster hitting an unbeaten 103. Conor Harvey (3-42), Nick Bresnan (2-47), Richie Bresnan (1-17), Hughes (1-60) and Jonny Booth (1-23) were wicket takers.

In reply, Townville – who were without Vardhan – reached 134-4 at one stage to be in contention, but ended on 186-9. Nick Bresnan (48), Hughes (45), Jonny Booth (30) and Richie Bresnan (22) top scored.

Methley remain in second place in the CYL Premier as Matthew Waite’s unbeaten 49 and Ryan Meyer’s 40 saw them to a three-wicket win at Ossett after they slumped to 105-6 in pursuit of the home side’s 173.

Although Chris Holliday hit 27 it was a struggle for the top half of the Methley batting order and they were indebted to Meyer’s 37-ball knock and the more patient innings from junior player Waite who hit seven fours and remained at the crease to the end to ensure a maximum point victory.

Ossett were all out for 173 with Shoaib Latif hitting 51 and skipper Michael Edwards 31.

They also had to recover after being reduced to 88-6 following some good bowling from Oral Blackford (3-32) and Waite (3-37). Later wicket takers were Marcus Walmsley (2-51) and Jack Rich (2-18).

A half century from captain Andy Ward could not save his Methley A side from suffering an eight-wicket defeat to Ossett A in CYL Division One.

Methley went in first and were all out for 157 with Ward (58) top scoring and Jason Baddeley hitting 26.

Ossett had little trouble reaching their target in 32 overs with Abbas (66 not out) top scoring and Joshua Thurwell (2-31) the only wicket taker

Townville A continued to struggle in CYL Division Two as they suffered a nine-wicket defeat to Mirfield Parish Cavaliers A.

After being put in, they lost four wickets with the score on 16 and their 10-man team was all out for only 70 with Kieran Samuels (17) and Ryan Kelsey (10) top scoring.

Mirfield lost only one wicket in their reply with Wilbrahim stumped by Samuels off the bowling of Steve Walton for 28.
