Another inspirational performance from skipper David Wainwright helped Castleford to record a sixth straight win in the Hunters ECB Yorkshire Premier League North.

The 31-run success relegated opponents Sessay into the drop zone and kept Castleford in a highly respectable fifth place.

Despite a creditable showing from Navin Kavikara (3-53) and Stephen Langstaff (4-58) Castleford were still able to post a challenging 240-8 total, thanks to a strong showing from the top four in their batting order.

Openers Wainwright (64) and Rizwan Hussain (35) provided a platform with an 85-run stand then Liam Hyde (40) put on 77 with his captain and Connor Hyde hit 34 not out.

Mark Wilkie (50) and Matthew Till (43) began the Sessay reply in positive fashion, but with five of the top eight out for single figure scores it was left to Mark Jackson (70 not out) to keep the game alive as Wainwright followed up his top scoring batting effort with 5-38 with the ball.

With Liam Hyde also chipping in with 2-51 the hosts fell behind the required rate and ended on 209-8.

Castleford seconds lost ground in the Hunters York Senior League’s Ebor Division Three as they went down by seven wickets to leaders Dunnington seconds.

After going in first Castleford could only make 133-9 from their 45 overs with Brian Phillips (56) top scoring and Murray Coyle hitting 22. Jack Young then took 2-44, but Dinnington eased home.
