County player David Wainwright was in good form as Castleford made it back to back victories in the ECB Yorkshire Premier League with a four-wicket success against Cleethorpes.
The Derbyshire CCC spinner paved the way for the victory with a six-wicket bowling spell then top scored with the bat when Cas got home in a low scoring contest for their second outright win of the season.
After being put in, Cleethorpes recovered from losing two early wickets to stand on 105-3 and looked set to post a challenging target.
But the loss of Alex Osmond to a James Sykes catch off the bowling of Jack Shutt changed the course of the game and Cleethorpes lost their last seven wickets for 25 runs to be all out for 130. Wainwright was the main destroyer as he claimed 6-23 from 11.5 overs with one wicket each for Alex Romaniw, Jarran Cook, Freddie Collins and Shutt.
Castleford’s reply began poorly as they lost Charles Finan, Luke Frankland and Dominic Sharp cheaply to be reduced to 19-3. Wainwright (33) and Shutt (21) pulled them round with a stand of 56 only to be out close together. But Collins (22 not out) and John Randerson (19) brought the side home with the target reached in the 54th over.
Castleford seconds dropped down the York Senior Division Three North table when they lost by seven wickets to Sheriff Hutton.
A poor batting display was the reason for the defeat as Castleford were bowled out for 58 and second-placed Sheriff Hutton knocked the runs off for the loss of just three wickets.
