Matthew Waite made a memorable debut in the Priestley Cup as he blasted a brilliant century for Methley CC in their 130-run win over Bankfoot.

The talented all-rounder was given permission by Yorkshire – for who he played in a recent County Championship match against Somerset – to play in the first round tie and he smashed an unbeaten 135 in a convincing win for last year’s runners-up in the competition.

Waite struck five sixes and 14 fours and was well supported by skipper Grant Soames as Methley piled up a big total of 291-5.

Bankfoot captain James Lee made a battling 66, but his side were bowled out for 161 with their former player Marcus Walmsley taking 4-21 and Adal Islam 3-20.
