PONTEFRACT Squash Club’s James Willstrop is currently in Richmond, America, to defend his North American Open title.

Willstrop (pictured), who beat Ramy Ashour 3-0 with a consumate display in last year’s final, plays Scottish number one Alan Clyne in the first round and Pontefract teammate Saurav Ghosal plays Hisham Ashour.

Blistered feet prevented Willstrop playing for AJP Pontefract in the National League match against Birmingham but wins from Ghosal, Siddharth Suchde, Lee Beachill and Sarah Kippax gave Pontefract a 4-1 victory.

India’s star woman player Dipika Pallikal is in training at Pontefract and was in the club’s Yorkshire Premier League side which beat Wigginton 5-0.

Promising French girl Julia Le Coq also played for Pontefract third team and won 3-2, the only winner against Hull and ER first team.

Sam Todd, playing in the Allam Hull Junior Open, showed why he has been selected for England at under 13 level at the age of nine when he won the under 13 championship in fine style. He had looked in excellent shape in preparation and reached the final without dropping a single game.

He won the final 3-1 against top seeded Richard Hall who is about to leave the age group.

Todd goes to Wimbledon this weekend for the British Under 13 Championship.

Pontefract’s Yorkshire League Premier side play Chapel Allerton this week at home and AJP Pontefract play Nottingham at home on Tuesday in the National League.
