THE long awaited update of the ultimate Leeds United book has hit the shelves and you can win a copy in an online competition with us.

Leeds United: The Complete Record is written by former Yorkshire Weekly Newspaper Group journalist Martin Jarred along with Whites fan Malcolm MacDonald and features pictures taken by our photographer, Ian Harber.

Quite simply it’s the definitive record of the club, covering every aspect of United’s history from the beginning as Leeds City through to the present day and the Elland Road club as we know it.

Previous editions of The Complete Record have become prized possessions for fans and no doubt the latest update will take on the same status.

The authors have widened the content this time with the inclusion of chapters on testimonial games, United in pre-season tournaments, players who died in active service in World War I and II and even an interesting section on kits, badges and logos.

Along the way they have unearthed some real forgotten gems, like the night Michel Platini and Kenny Dalglish played for Leeds, the game in which goalkeeper Gary Sprake scored a penalty and an England trial match that took place at Elland Road between “The North” and “The South” with the southerners winning.

And believe it or not Leeds City’s first-ever competitive game was at the Scatcherd Lane ground that is home to Morley RFC.

Chapters on 50 memorable matches and best and worst league seasons prove a great read and there are fascinating facts on every page with sections on Leeds managers, backroom staff, chairmen and even administrators.

With player career records up until the end of last season, an international roll of honour, player of the year and top goalscorer lists there’s all the details you would ever want to know in a must have book for any Leeds fan.

Leeds United: The Complete Record is published by DB Publishing and costs £25.
