Wakefield musician releases song inspired by coronavirus lockdown

Eugene Bruce wrote the song last month, after spending several weeks in self-isolation. In 'Clean Air', he sings and raps his concerns about catching the virus, which has infected more than 50,000 people in the UK.

Though Eugene currently works in a factory, he has always had a keen interest in music, and said he hoped the song would help people smile during the coronavirus lockdown.

He said: “Obviously everything we’re seeing is really quite dark at the moment. I make music but it’s just a hobby.

“We’re just trapped right now I think what everyone needs is a holiday, to get out there and feel safe about the air that they’re breathing.

“I wrote it in an hour. I make music in my spare time so I recorded it and sent it to a studio and they mixed and mastered it for me. They were really excited about it.

“And then I got it back and I wanted to get this out to people so we said why don’t we try and make something on my phone.”

Determined to create a music video to go alongside his track, Eugene teamed up with girlfriend Carla to put together a music video.

The couple, who are expecting their first child later this year, have been self-isolating for several weeks, and chose to spend a day recording a music video for the song.

In the video, which has now been viewed more than 5,000 times, Eugene can be seen rapping as he explores the house, before heading outside to the “clean air” of the streets.

“I think there’s nothing good about what’s going on in the world right now,” he said. “But with people being able to stay home it’s giving them more chances to connect with their families and be a little bit more creative.”
