Imagine having a choice of not just three – but over half a dozen different types of peppers, tomatoes and salad leaves. Fresh fruit and vegetables are bought daily from a Turkish wholesaler in London. This means the best and freshest goods are hand selected.

FreshCo owner Aras Ali opened his first supermarket in London and has built up excellent supply contacts which he is using to supply his new Wakefield enterprise.

There are all the regular staples you’d expect – apples, bananas, oranges and grapes, potatoes, carrots and greens – but so much more, like bunches of fresh-picked coriander, fresh figs and chard.

There is also an incredible choice of dried fruits and nuts including dates, figs, the greenest, freshest pistachios and rich tasty almonds.

Customers love the ‘help yourself’ nut dispensers so they can buy just the right amount to ensure they’re always fresh for cooking or snacking on.

Meat and deli produce

Yorkshire Halal supplies the meat for FreshCo. Manager Harem Ali explained there are three standards of Halal meat and FreshCo only buys the top class meat products – but charges the same as others charge for third class meats.

The rotisserie chickens have proved extremely popular – a quick, healthy and tasty meal at any time.

Dishes of olives in every size and colour will delight the deli-lovers. At the delicatessen counter you’ll find a range of foodstuffs and a variety of pre-prepared too – making varied, fresh and tempting meals for all the family easier than ever.

Our daily bread

The bakery produces fresh breads every day. Naans and Rotis are cooked to order in the special ovens- you can place your order and do your shopping as it cooks, or watch it being prepared and baked.

Turkish bread is another popular product at the bakery, large flat white loaves, ideal for tearing and sharing, sandwiches and snacks.

Trays of dozens of types of fresh Baklava (a pastry, pistachio nut and honey sweet treat), and the most succulent Turkish delight are on offer alongside many other deserts and sweets.

Park right outside

The purpose built store, at St Andrews Hall, Upper Warrengate, Wakefield, has its own dedicated car park. There are large shopping trolleys and ramped access into the shop. There is also a Turkish restaurant and café built alongside which is due to open soon.

The feedback has been great both in person and on social media.

FreshCo is open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.
