98-year-old man duped by con men in attempted burglary
One of the men told the pensioner he was from a water company after he was confronted him in the kitchen of the victim’s New Wellgate home at around 6pm on Friday, April 17.
The suspect then went upstairs but the victim remained suspicious and threatened to call the police.

DC Mark Hargreaves, of Wakefield CID, said: “Police are investigating this offence and we would like to speak to anyone who has information or may have had three men come to their door in similar circumstances.
“In this instance the victim found one of the men inside his home and was rightly suspicious from the off. He eventually managed to prevent the burglary through threatening to call the police.
“I would also remind householders that you are under no obligation to let cold callers into your homes. Genuine callers from utilities companies will carry ID and have a business number you can ring to confirm their identity.”
