Commonwealth Day flag to be raised in Wakefield

A flag will be flown proudly in Wakefield to celebrate Commonwealth Day.

Around 730 flags will be raised in 38 Commonwealth countries as part of the event on Monday, March 9.

A flag will be hoisted at County Hall by the Mayor of Wakefield Coun Sandra Pickin at 9.55am.

She will also read a message of good wishes from the Queen, along with a Commonwealth affirmation.

Coun Pickin said: “I am looking forward celebrating Commonwealth day.

“We take great pride in being part of the Commonwealth and this special event will show our ongoing support.”
