Pensioner, 86, in court over cannabis production at £1m mansion

An 86-year-old pensioner has appeared in court over a cannabis grow at a £1million mansion.

Colin Bywater admitted a charge of being the occupier of Meridian House in Darrington and permitting the production of cannabis production in December of 2018.

Appearing at Leeds Magistrates' Court yesterday, Bywater, of Springfield Crescent, Kirk Smeaton, was handed a six-month conditional discharge and told to pay £105 in costs.

Meridian House is a 10,000 sq ft luxury home off Estcourt Road in Darrington.

It has more than six bedrooms, multiple reception rooms and is reached by its own private road.

It was listed for sale in January for £1 million and according to luxury property estate agents, Enfield Luxe, it has now been sold, subject to contract.
