Yobs taking pot shots with crossbows

Yobs have been '˜randomly firing' crossbow bolts and arrows into people's gardens.
..
.

And police are warning that they could kill or seriously injure anyone they hit.

Pontefract police officers say they have had reports of the weapons being fired in the town and they posted a warning on Facebook.

In one of the incidents, an arrow became lodged in a resident’s lawn and the crossbow bolt penetrated the roof of a shed.

Police posted this message: “It is clear that these have been fired at random and with little care as to where they would land.

“At this time there have been no serious consequences from these actions but the dangerous risk of causing serious, if not fatal injuries to anyone struck by these devices is obvious.”

Officers asked people who owned the weapons to use them “legally and sensibly”.

They posted: “A bow and arrow or a crossbow is a powerful, lethal weapon and, as such, should be treated with a planned, common sense approach and be given the respect it deserves as a lethal weapon.

“Always use safe practices at all times and ensure you have ample space beyond your target.”

They posted the following guidelines on social media:

- Anyone under 18 must be supervised by an adult over 21.

- You must be at least 50 yards from the centre of a public highway.

- You must have a sufficient backstop and no projectile should leave the boundaries of your land.

- Your activity should not cause any distress to neighbours or passing public.
