A friendship lunch for people living with or caring for people with dementia has been hailed ‘as a massive success’.

More than 50 people attended the friendship lunch, held in conjunction with The Alzheimer’s Society as part of Dementia Action Week, at The Bridge Inn (formerly The Ruddy Duck) in Wakefield.

Guests got to enjoy a performance from Brogan Collins, played a game of bingo, sticky 13, and a raffle, as well as listening to an inspiring talk from dementia advisors, Joanna Currie and her colleague, Angie Callaghan.

The event was organised by Home Instead Wakefield.

Lee Masterman, community engagement officer for the company, said: “I cannot thank everyone enough for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism at our friendship lunch event.

"I hope people enjoyed themselves, as well as being informed about the various organisations and groups there are out there, for people concerned about Dementia, or help after diagnosis.”

Also present were Ruth Neil, lead clinic for The Wakefield Admiral Nurses; Jan Archbold who runs Memory Action Group; Antony Davis from Singing for the Brain, as well as Callum Buck, from Live Well Wakefield; Joe Nicholson from Turning Point; Lynn Jackson, Care co-ordinator for Stanley, Outwood and Eastmoor; and several advisors from different dementia groups.

Dementia Action Week is a national event that sees the public taking action to improve the lives of people affected by dementia.

The awareness week took place between May 16 and May 22.
