A disused church is to be turned into a house after planning permission was granted.

St John The Divine on Denby Dale Road West shut is a Grade-II listed building and was built in the late 1800s.

It closed in February 2018 because of dwindling numbers and a lack of facilities such as a kitchen and toilet.

Much of the congregation uses St James’ Church less than two miles away.

St John The Divine will now be turned into a three-bedroom property, while the churchyard will be divided to provide space for a new detached house to be built to the west.
