As archaeologists in Fitzwilliam uncover ancient kilns believed to date back to Roman times, we take a look back at some of the most exciting and important archaeological discoveries ever made in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford. How many of these do you remember?
9. Hidden treasure
In 2017, a treasure trove of Roman coins was unearthed in the garden of a Wakefield house, when a woman searching for a missing garden tool discovered a hoard of 17 silver-bronze coins. They were referred to the British Museum, and later declared to be treasure. Photo: Wakefield Coroner's Court
10. Catacombs
And Wakefield's Unitarian chapel also holds a secret - it is home to historic catacombs. The underground tunnels hold the tombs of dozens of people who were once member of Westgate Chapel, and open to the public for only a few hours a year.
11. Roman skeletons
And in 2017, there was another shock in Pontefract, when dozens of Roman skeletons were unearthed on the site of a new housing estate. Believed to date from around 200-300AD, the 30 skeletons were described as a "unique" find. (Stock image)
